Fame Academy: David's Story
Просмотров 3,3 тыс.Год назад
To mark 20 years since the broadcast of the first series of Fame Academy, here is the official VHS charting the story of David Sneddon's win. In my view, Fame Academy was a severely underrated format, and it's a crying shame that it never really took off in the UK (not helped by a pretty dire second series, where almost all of the unique points of the format were stripped away). It's also a str...
Channel 4 Cricket: Today at the Test (2003)
Просмотров 2,9 тыс.4 года назад
Two short extracts from Today at the Test highlights programmes from 2003. The first comes from the first Test Match of the summer, as England take on Zimbabwe at Lord's. This is the day after James Anderson took his first test match wicket (which was, in fact, untelevised in this country as Channel 4 had already wrapped up their coverage so that they could show Hollyoaks) and Mark Nicholas (in...
England Cricket Press Conference (2000) after beating Pakistan
Просмотров 4444 года назад
"Normally we just sneaked in through Heathrow" said Nasser Hussain of returning from most of his England tours, but not this time because England have just beaten Pakistan in the most dramatic fashion. This called for a press conference, and here's an extract of it, recorded from BBC Breakfast. We hear from Nasser Hussain, Duncan Fletcher and Lord MacLaurin. It's hard to overstate how different...
Channel 4 Cricket: England win in Pakistan, December 2000

Channel 4's full highlights package from an iconic day for English cricket as Nasser Hussain's team win in the dark on the final day of the final test in Karachi. Mark Nicholas presents from the stadium and Dermot Reeve and Simon Hughes are your commentators (recording their commentary hours after the action had taken place, over the already-edited pictures from a London studio). Also of note i...
A Question of Sport: 1999 compilation
Просмотров 86 тыс.4 года назад
The final episode of the 1998-99 series of A Question of Sport, with on-location links by Sue Barker, Ally McCoist and John Parrott from Wimbledon, wrapped around highlights of the series. This was the second Sue Barker-hosted series of QoS, but the first to have been 'modernised' with new theme music and titles , a new set and a more lighthearted approach, as can be seen in these clips. Also l...

The BBC's highlights programme for the 1997 B&H Cup Semi-Finals. Tony Lewis is in Canterbury for Kent v Northamptonshire, whilst David Gower is at the Oval for Surrey v Leicestershire. This is the full programme up until the point where my recording runs out. 10.6.97

The opening to the BBC's highlights programme of the fourth day of the first Ashes test of the 1997 series. Richie Benaud presents. Apologies for the abrupt cut-off, which is where my recording ends. 8.6.97
BBC Cricket: 1998 NatWest Trophy Final Highlights
Просмотров 9 тыс.4 года назад
The full BBC highlights programme of the second day of this rain-affected NatWest Trophy Final, as Lancashire take on Derbyshire. Notably, this was the BBC's final cricket programme in the summer of 1998, as you can hear from Tony Lewis' sign-off (although there were still some Cricket Focuses and one Gower's Cricket Monthly to come, so not quite the very end). At this point, the BBC knew that ...
BBC Cricket: 1998 NatWest Trophy Final Preview
Просмотров 2,2 тыс.4 года назад
David Gower hosts the BBC's preview programme to the 1998 NatWest Trophy Final. David Lloyd, then England coach, is the studio guest. This is the week after England had suffered a thumping loss to Sri Lanka and Lloyd had made some unfortunate comments about Muttiah Muralitharan, leading to the discussion at the start of the programme. Who would have thought that less than a year later Gower and...

BBC Cricket: England at the 1999 World Cup
Просмотров 9 тыс.5 лет назад
The highs and lows of England's 1999 Cricket World Cup campaign, as seen in the openers and closers to BBC highlights programmes. There's early optimism, and note the suggestion that England are 'all but through' after they beat Zimbabwe. Of course, we now know that they scored those runs too slowly and Zimbabwe's win over South Africa knocked England out on net run rate. There's no match foota...

Only South Africa were in competition against Australia. Pakistan self proclaimed glory hunters 😂
Chor saalaa paisoo kai leyee apnee desh yaani apni maa kòo bechaa
the entire decade was a nightmare and featured well below average cricketers for the England team. it's no surprise they were swept aside in the world cup and bottom of the test rankings in 1999.
My god what a time to be alive Cricket was so much better when it was there for all to enjoy "Jones......Bowden......Kasprowicz!!"
This was the most popular Anglia ident music.
I like the 1999 cricket world cup bcoz every participating team was equal. Ya South Africa was favourites but they became chokers during this world cup up till now. Australia and Pakistan were also favourite teams. India and Sri Lanka had good players. England was average team in 90,s. I missed this world cup although my nation team Pakistan 🇵🇰 lost the final. But atleast we witnessed a memorable tournament
Hi anji
David was one of my early teen crushes. Loved his album and I remember buying this DVD too. ❤
Good to watch this after all the years, but no cricket!😅
Thank you for uploading! Do you have any more county cricket coverage by any chance?
2:04 massive no balls bowled in the nets, usual practice from the bowlers!😂
2:48 Even bigger by Gus. He'd be grumpy if he had to bowl them all again!
Don't suppose you have the whole of the CBBC panto from that same day (Christmas Day 1997), i.e. The Demon Headmaster Takes Over TV? I've been looking for it everywhere.
Simply the best talent show. Insightful and honest. Better by a mile than the horrible stuff now. There was a freshness and realism about those students that is so lacking these days. David’s journey was open and visible to us all. His improvement was no fluke. Twenty two years on, I rather doubt that this type of production could be replicated. A very positive memory for us all.
In the days leading up to this, the BBC had a daily show called "Simply The Best", where various people gave a reason for why a certain SPOTY winner deserved to be called the greatest of all. If anyone comes across the one featuring Michael Buerk urging viewers to vote for Bobby Moore, please let me know. Simply the Best BBC One Thu 11th Dec 2003, 19:00 on BBC One London 4/5. Gary Lineker profiles the merits of sporting legends who won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award between 1964 and 1973. Among those contending tonight's viewers' vote are the late Bobby Moore , Princess Anne and Sir Henry Cooper.
Wow epic 15:10..... why we don't have presentation ceremonies like this anymore.... Even the CWC 2022 presentation ceremony was a dead meat..... 😢😢😢
Gilly boy
Hansie..continue to RIP
Apart from the series with Ian and Bill these 2 were brilliant but when i had sports men and women on the show and it was about sport

Richie was the greatest cricket commentator and one of - if not - the greatest sports commentators. Summers arent the same without him .
When county cricket meant something
The Golden WC of cricket....the best
So talented! I really enjoyed this video. Thanks.
Ally mccoist the funniest man on tv😂
A world cup heavily influenced by net run rate. England were out, West Indies were out and eventually South Africa's fate was sealed by the net run rate
Its the most competitive worldcup so far, with 8 teams having a chance to make it to semis. SA was the best though with all the all rounders they deserved to win that world cup, unfortunately they had to face an equivalent team in aus in the semis instead of the other two weaker teams in pak & nz.
When BBC Sport was BBC Sport. Des and Steve, the coolest of all sports presenters… no fuss, no banter, just sport.
Best world cup my life with 2003 wc
Thanks
World cup played with white duke ball.....it swung miles
lol i even forgot about that snails commercial
India's group games in this world cup were at The Hove, Leicester, Bristol, Taunton and Edgbaston. The organisers underestimated the Indian fans' ability to pay and fill up the grounds. Four of India's games were in tiny county grounds instead of a big test stadiums. ICC would have made a lot of money if India played in big stadiums. It was their big financial blunder. They were not aware at that time of the upcoming financial clout of the Indian cricket fanbase living in India and abroad. I'm not saying that results for Indian team would have been any different. That loss against Zimbabwe haunted us throughout the tournament. India never played on smaller grounds after that except against associate nations sometimes.
What's the point of your comment?
@@JackBarrBaxter That 1999 was a terribly organised World Cup.
Back then India Team was literally Tendulkar, Ganguly and Dravid. No other “world stars”. Only from 2001 onwards when Sehwag, Yuvraj etc came of age did India become the “powerhouse” of cricket they are now. Back in 90’s India were mediocre at best.
Sorry, I forgot we played in the 1999 World Cup!! Even though we hosted it!!
Broadcasting & cricket colossus. Sadly missed. RIP
Would he approve of bazball?
So proud of you David. Best wishes Derek
It was the last time I saw kids out in the street playing cricket ...
My Dad and I listened to Richie’s commentaries - and silences - for years together. I cherish those times, and Mr. Benaud. The greatest.
For shadowing when they showed a picture of Schumacher skiing
1:24 Cue Anglia Ident before the show starts.
Benaud the fuckwit. Same as greig.
After this, the BBC stopped hosting cricket until recent years.
Where’s Scotland?
LEGEND ❤❤❤
The best commentator of any sport in history.
I miss him so much
a young kid in the 80's fell in love listening to test cricket. This is the man responsible. Class personified, wonderful just wonderful what a great man
Shout out to Mark Nicholas as well. Very good presenter and commentator.
Hell yes
